9/4/2010 Religious freedom in America

Todays topic is Religious Freedom in America
Contrary to what you may have learned via the media, at high school or college, America from its inception has been a religious country and was designed to be one.

In the coming decades, upholding religious freedom for Americans of all faiths and
None denomination will be no easy task. The United States is today the most religiously diverse society on Earth and, among developed countries, the most religious.

Expanding religious pluralism combined with culture wars involving religious differences are making our public square an increasingly crowded and sometimes hostile arena.

A quote made by Mr. Land:“I think the greatest threats to religious liberty in the United States for the remainder of my lifetime are going to be attempts to suppress the free exercise of religion.

Where we worship and how we choose to worship should this be an issue in the United States of America? Listeners be advised the opinions you hear are not the opinions of the WGNU 920AM or Matters You Need To Know.

Joining us this morning to discuss this is Michael McFarlane

Michael we know that in our country we have the right to freedom of speech, the freedom of religion. I am a Christian and under that Christian umbrella are many different religions, which do not believe all the same things, which bring me to my first question.

1. Should sensitivity to other groups ever trump freedom of religious expression?
2. Who should be allowed to decide where people can legally and lawfully worship? The citizenry? Legislators? The courts?
3. Is religious intolerance woven into the history of America?
4. Is the tenet of "Separation of Church and State" a legal and societal myth?
5. Is The United States Islamophobic?

We do welcome you comments and views about this matter but, Please very mindful of what you post on this blog Please.
